Who is James Bowman Lindsay?

James Bowman Lindsay, a notable Scottish inventor and scholar, was born in the quaint village of Carmyllie, Angus, but it was in Dundee where he truly left his mark on the world.

One of Lindsay's most significant achievements was his groundbreaking work in electric lighting.


In the year 1835, long before the likes of Thomas Edison and Joseph Swan, Lindsay demonstrated the use of an electric lamp at a public meeting in Dundee's Thistle Hall on East Dock Street, showcasing his visionary approach to harnessing electricity for practical illumination.
