American fast food chain Wendy's is set to open in Dundee, with a planning application now submitted for its new city centre restaurant.

The restaurant will occupy the former Fridays and Go site on Reform Street, which has lain empty since last year when TGI Fridays closed.

A previous building warrant was lodged with Dundee City Council, and the new application includes plans for Wendy's signage on the building.

A floor plan shows the restaurant will have 55 seats, a new pick-up counter for customers, and a revised bathroom area to create a private staff area.

The application has been submitted by QSR Projects, the company which made similar applications for Wendy's in Aberdeen.

Wendy's is the third-largest burger chain in the US. It originally opened in the UK in the 1990s but withdrew in 1999.

The chain returned in 2021 and has been expanding across the country rapidly ever since.

The new Wendy's in Dundee will be part of this UK expansion, with other restaurants also planned for Glasgow and Aberdeen. An opening date has yet to be revealed.
