US fast food giant Wendy's plans to increase its Scottish coverage with the addition of a restaurant in Dundee city centre.
According to the Courier, an application has been made to Dundee City Council for a building warrant to internally fit out the former Fridays and Go unit on Reform Street, which shut last year after the chain fell into administration.
The application was submitted by Nottingham-based QSR Projects, a quick-service restaurant company. QSR Projects has also applied to Glasgow City Council to open a Wendy's outlet on Sauchiehall Street.
Wendy's is the third-biggest hamburger fast-food chain in the USA and first came to the UK in the 1990s, only to withdraw.
The brand has since been trying to make a comeback to the UK in recent years, with several locations planned for many UK cities.
In Aberdeen, Wendy's have proposed the refurbishment of a JD Sports store on Union Street into a new restaurant; the estimated investment value is £450,000.
The move into Dundee is all part of the wider strategy as Wendy's gets set to restart its UK plans. The old Fridays and Go unit on Reform Street, vacant since the closure of the chain, represents just the spot needed for the expanding brand.
Further details, such as an opening date, have still to be confirmed of the proposed Dundee outlet as the application is still at the application stage.
People's views on the application are there to be seen and commented upon via Dundee City Council's website.
Wendy's return to the UK market is only part of an increasing trend among American fast-food chains looking to establish or improve their presence across British cities.
The company currently has plans for expansion, closely watched by both industry analysts and fast-food aficionados.
