A popular cafe in Broughty Ferry has just opened a small cinema, bringing old classic films and a warm, welcoming atmosphere to the very heart of the community.
Braw Tree Café, located next to Broughty Castle, held its first community cinema night this week with a screening of When Harry Met Sally, drawing in an excited crowd for a “cosy and nostalgic evening”.
Following on from the success of the café's launch, the café has announced a series of forthcoming screenings throughout February, allowing cinema lovers to see classic favourites with the comforting warmth of a cuppa and a homemade Braw biscuit or ice cream.
The following films will be shown:
Breakfast at Tiffany's – Tuesday 18 February, 10:30am
Pretty Woman – Thursday 20 February, 7:00pm
Ghost – Thursday 27 February, 7:00pm
Tickets can be purchased at the café or online via Citizen Ticket.
The screenings this month are a test run prior to opening a dedicated film club in March, when film titles will be voted for by popular vote.
Stuart Sinclair, who runs Discovery Audio Visual, set the mini cinema up and told Dundee Culture how the idea came about:
Jackie from Braw Tea Cafe originally got in touch with me through a friend who works with the DCA. After a lovely meeting with some amazing cake and discussions what was a little idea really took off, we designed a suitable system to suit the venue and after some back and forth with ideas we came up with what is now the finished product. Jackie and staff were all amazing to deal with and as a small local buisness it was great to be trusted with the project too.
With its mix of nostalgic old favourites, home-baked treats, and open arms, Braw Tree Café's new venture has all the ingredients of a new favourite in Dundee's cultural scene.
