These are the best chippers past and present in Dundee according to Dundonians

When it comes to chip shops, the people of Dundee have a deep love for their favourite haunts; many boast memories and ongoing regular spots.

Be it that salty taste of perfectly fried chips, the nostalgia associated with Friday night family nights, or just downright legendary local names, these chippers are some of the best-known and loved in Dundee.

Following are the top five chippers about which Dundonians never stop raving:

The Silvery Tay

A clear crowd favourite, the Silvery Tay has stood the test of time. Mentioned repeatedly by locals, it’s hailed for its consistently excellent food and friendly service. Whether you’re a regular or just passing through, this chipper is one to try.

The Deep Sea

A name steeped in nostalgia, the Deep Sea was for decades the favourite of many. Located where Wee Mexico is now, the Deep Sea chipper was a popular favourite. Though some lament its past glory, it is yet a touchstone of Dundee's chipper heritage. "Back in the day," one local reminisced, "you couldn't beat Deep Sea for a Friday night treat."

Tony's

Tony's was another chipper that was mentioned as a favourite, a beloved restaurant that holds a special place in the hearts of Dundonians. Known for its vibrant atmosphere and welcoming service, Tony's has become a cornerstone of the local dining scene. This Happyhillock chipper not only serves a diverse menu filled with classic favorites but also takes pride in its commitment to quality ingredients and traditional cooking methods.

The Bridge Chipper

This is one of those old staples; many remember fondly The Bridge Chipper in Lochee. Older generations talk about its golden chips, while this place has had people through its doors to carry the tradition on from decades past.

Dora's

Dora's is a real favourite and remembered for having great atmosphere and great food. The old chipper on Dura Street simply screamed quality among many who visited over the years.

Of course, these are only five of the city's favourites, but there is a very long, long list of beloved chippers. From the Amalfi in the '80s to modern-day spots like Fresh & Chips, Dundee's chippers really have something for everyone.
