The Dundee Tapestry exhibition at the V&A Dundee has been extended up to April, the museum has confirmed - and there are three new tapestries which will be added.
Until 6 April 2025, the tapestry now gives visitors more time to delve into the detailed storytelling of this piece. In addition, it will be relocated to a bigger space and showcase three additional new panels celebrating Dundee's rich history. The expanded display will open on Saturday, 15 February.
The folk singer Sheena Wellington, who features in the Dundee Music and Dundee Women panels, is going to celebrate the occasion by performing a selection of traditional Dundee songs at a free celebration event at V&A Dundee on the same day at 2pm, with Aileen Carr, Barbara Dymock, Chris Marra and Lynne Campbell also performing. Open to all, visitors can enjoy the live music while viewing the refreshed exhibition.
The three new panels, Shipbuilding, Factory Life, and Doon the Toon, have been stitched by Sandra Allstaff, Jean Davidson, Christine Don, Cath Gardiner, Ervin Mackie, and Lynne Potts.
The latest additions will continue the tapestry's mission to capture Dundee's unique stories with beautiful craftsmanship.
The Dundee Tapestry has been attracting full houses since it was unveiled in January 2024. Some 86,000 visitors attended the museum from January to April last year with another 63,000 seeing it since the reopening in November 2024.
Now, following its extended run and new home, the Dundee Tapestry will be given a further two months of being on display.
This will mean more people could see this fabulous tribute to past and present life in the city.
