Arbroath's Alan Soutar has won his first ever PDC darts title after defeating Daryl Gurney in the deciding leg at the Players Championship 11 in Hildesheim.

Alan Soutar, the eleventh different winner in as many events in 2024, claimed his first ranking title after a series of impressive performances, rebounding from a challenging 2023 that had put his Tour Card status at risk.

The professional darts player, who also works as a firefighter in Dundee, secured his victory with an 11-darter, defeating Gurney in a dramatic last-leg shoot-out.

He described this achievement as one of the best in his darts career, alongside winning the World Cup with Scotland in the WDF system.

In the final, Soutar started strong with an 11-dart hold, but Gurney took a 5-3 lead. Soutar leveled at 5-5 and, after sharing the next four legs, clinched the win with back-to-back 180s and another 11-darter.

Earlier, Soutar defeated Steve Beaton 5-3, Martin Lukeman and Danny Noppert each 6-2, maintained a 107.73 average against Ritchie Edhouse, and posted a 102.15 average to eliminate Dirk van Duijvenbode in the semi-finals.
