People have been rallying around Dundonian Eilish McColgan after being targeted by body-shaming trolls.

Eilish, whose record-breaking performances on the track have gained her a massive following, has received a barrage of abusive comments from trolls who have mocked her appearance, which led to a flood of support from her supporters and fellow Scots who have condemned the abuse.

After a post on Dundee Culture's socials highlighted reactions to the comments and acknowledged McColgan for her dedication, discipline, and inspirational career, several responses were shared.

The majority highlighted the absurdity of vilifying the world-class athlete's physique, citing that long-distance runners have thin bodies due to the nature of the sport.

The messages flooded in from across the city and beyond, with supporters urging McColgan to pay no attention to the trolls and to continue placing Dundee and Scotland on the international map.

She was described as a "top international long-distance runner who has the body to match" by one fan and as "an amazing woman—strong and beautiful. We are lucky to have her representing Scotland" by another.

Several commentators pointed out the double standards and negativity of body shaming, one of them commenting, "When did we body shame healthy people? Can we reinstate compulsory education?"

Others pointed out the commitment required to train at McColgan's level, commenting, "The people writing these awful things couldn't run the length of themselves, let alone do what she has."

McColgan, whose mother, Liz, was a Scottish sporting legend, has continued to inspire young athletes and sport enthusiasts around the world. People have vowed to stand by her side, with many of them looking forward to cheering her on at the London Marathon.
