Dundee's cruise industry has been growing over the last couple of years, with continued work to attract more ships to the city.

New regional director Derek Knox believes the highly anticipated Eden Project, opening within the next decade, can help further establish Dundee as a key cruise tourism destination.

Speaking to The Courier, Knox highlighted how the coming of the Eden Project can be used to further enhance Dundee's appeal to cruise operators.

As a project with a focus on sustainability, biodiversity, and education, it is bound to have global interest, making the city an even more appealing port of call for international cruise lines.

Coupled with Dundee's waterfront regeneration and cultural attractions like V&A Dundee, the cruise industry is set for continued expansion.

The increase in cruise traffic has already brought significant economic benefits to Dundee, with thousands of visitors coming to to the city and the surrounding area.

Ambassador Cruise Line has made Dundee one of its seven regional ports since 2023, bringing more passengers to the area and investment in the city portside.

The expansion has also complemented the boom in offshore wind activity at the city port. Dundee has developed over the last several years into a key location for offshore wind developments, with the assembly, maintenance, and logistics of North Sea wind farms being based at the city.

This industry has also seen increased investment in port infrastructure, making Dundee an even more attractive location for industry and tourism alike.

As Eden Project proposals take shape, local businesses and tourism operators will be looking to make the most of the spin-offs from the boom in cruise traffic.

With its thriving port activity, record visitor numbers, and further developments on the horizon, Dundee is poised to put itself squarely on the map as a hub for Scotland's cruise and maritime industries.
