Mills Observatory saw a huge turnout that was described as “manic” by stargazers coming to visit the observatory to check out the last supermoon of the year.
Following promotion of the event by Mills Observatory and Dundee Culture, crowds gathered to watch the supermoon which was the last of the year.
A few commenters on Dundee Culture said that the observatory “was packed”, with one describing that there was a queue to get to the top at the dome.
Another described it as “manic”, whilst a third said that volunteers were “surprised and overwhelmed” at the turnout.
The article announcing the event on Dundee Culture received thousands of views and there was a lot of users tagging family and friends in responses on both posts by Mills and Dundee Culture.
Mills Observatory recently recorded over 1,000 visitors, where in which one of the staff members said that they totalled a number of visitors they’d expect in a month in just that one week.
The popularity of Mills Observatory has boosted as a result of wider social media coverage, spearheaded by Dundee Culture and Mills Observatory as part of the ongoing partnership.
The influx in visitor numbers comes as the observatory is under threat of closure by council chiefs with a decision expected by early next year.
