IKEA have lodged plans to open up a new store in Dundee

IKEA has submitted plans for a new shop in Dundee, marking a potential expansion of the Swedish furniture giant’s presence in the city, the Courier has reported.

A planning application has been lodged to install signage at an empty unit in Kingsway West Retail Park, next to Tapi Carpets.

While details remain limited, the unit’s smaller size suggests it may follow the model of IKEA’s order and collection point in Aberdeen rather than a full-scale store like those in Glasgow or Edinburgh.

These smaller-format stores typically allow customers to browse a limited range of items, place orders, and collect purchases, with some—including Aberdeen—featuring a café.

This move follows IKEA’s launch of ‘collect near you’ points at Tesco car parks in Dundee and Perth last year. At the time, the company hinted at an “even greater local presence” in the future—something that could now be taking shape with this new Dundee location.

More details on the plans are expected to emerge in the coming weeks.
