Hotel Indigo Dundee Have Just Opened Up A New Victorian-Themed Bar

Updated: Apr 5

Hotel Indigo Dundee has just opened up a new open-plan Victorian-theme bar as part of a £1 million upgrade to the boutique hotel located in the former Lower Dens Mill jute mill.

Eighteen Twenty-Two offers a relaxing space for hotel-goers and visitors and offers a new experience for those who are

Eighteen Twenty-Two gets its name from the year the Baxter Brothers opened up their first mill in Dundee in 1822, which happened to be in Lower Dens Mill, where the bar is located.

The bar opens at 9am and offers a selection of food and drinks, such as coffee and pastries in the morning. From 12pm, visitors can enjoy a variety of foods from bar bites to daily homemade soups.

Crafted to highlight local producers and cherished homemade recipes, more offerings range from pork and black pudding sausage rolls to bite-sized burger sliders, alongside beloved classics like haddock goujons and steak and ale pie.

The new bar is the latest addition to the site of the Lower Dens Mills complex which already houses Hotel Indigo, Staybridge Suites and the Daisy Tasker restaurant.

It is a great place to socialise and one of the best features of the new bar, is the nods it has to Dundee's past. It boasts a collection of wonderful old photos of Dundee, with the Royal Arch and the old waterfront being some which have been featured.

There is also a quiet snug in the corner which is so beautiful, and it is definitely a spot which I hope will be popular with visitors to the bar.

Lift doors from the old mill have also been retained as part of the new bar, this continues to cement the hotel's commitment to being unique to Dundee.

The variety of the drinks are sourced locally from brands such as 71 Brewing and Eden Mill. There are also whiskies representing every region of Scotland alongside custom Eighteen22 cocktails that can be purchased at the bar.

I was delighted to visit the new bar myself very recently. I opted for something small, so I had flatbread, salad and fries - and it was tasty. The staff were very kind and looked after me. It was also great to catch up with some familiar faces too when I there.

This is a brilliant stop to relax if you are looking for a place to chill. It is definitely a contender as one of the hottest bars in the city right now, and you don't need to stay at the hotel to visit which is an added benefit.

Accessibility

Eighteen22 is accessible, it is an open-plan bar on the ground floor of the hotel as you walk in. It is located left of the reception.

Location

The new Eighteen22 bar is located within Hotel Indigo at Lower Dens Mill on Constable Street, DD4 6AD.
