The HMS Unicorn is one step closer to its ambitious restoration goal, thanks to an award from the National Lottery Heritage Fund for almost £800,000.

This funding is another key milestone in the vessel's transformation under the banner of Project Safe Haven to secure the Unicorn for future generations.

Along with the above news, the Unicorn Preservation Society has just formally launched a new website about the ship.

The website has launched a new fundraising appeal to match a further £10 million in grants that are subject to the UPS matching the original award.

The society is asking for the public's help to raise £650,000 by April 2025. For every pound donated, there will be £10 more because of these grants; thus, public support is extremely important in reaching this target.

Restoration and preservation at The Unicorn depend highly on the community, and UPS makes it a point to express just how important both local and national donors are in the survival of the ship.

The HMS Unicorn is one of the oldest surviving warships in the world, built in 1824, and holds an affectionate place in Dundee's maritime heritage.

The funding and public donations will go toward vital restoration work to keep this amazing vessel inspiring visitors and maritime enthusiasts alike.
