HMS Unicorn will officially open a new medicinal garden at the East Graving Dock, offering the public a unique glimpse of how plants were treated in the past during the Georgian era.
The garden has been developed in partnership with the University of Dundee's Wellcome Centre for Anti-Infectives Research and will celebrate the sea-faring heritage of using plants for their healing properties.
The official opening ceremony, which will take place at the garden on Saturday 29 March at 3pm invites members of the public to come and view this beautifully conceived space and discover how sailors employed plants for medicinal application during lengthy periods at sea.
They will hear a lecture on the garden's design and the medicinal properties of the plants and how these treatments were, in the past, essential to survival upon the high seas.
Visitors will also get to visit both the garden and HMS Unicorn herself, hearing all about the ship's rich maritime history.
There will be light refreshments, and the evening will offer a chance to mingle with others who are interested in history, preservation, wellness, and nature.
HMS Unicorn is thrilled to occupy this new space, capitalising on Dundee's maritime heritage and creating a tranquil oasis for the city.
Everyone who is interested in coming along to the event is encouraged to express their interest by Tuesday 25 March.
