Every spring, Dundee bursts into colour as cherry blossom trees across the city erupt in stunning pink and white.

From the elegant pathways of Dawson Park to the stunning greenery at Magdalen Green, these vibrant blossoms are a beloved harbinger that better times are ahead.

The cherry blossoms should be in full bloom by mid-to-late April, as indicated by past weather patterns and blossoming patterns.

The period of peak bloom typically lasts between one to two weeks, so you'll need to plan ahead if you want to catch them at their peak.

Where to see them

Here are just some of the places you can catch the cherry blossoms in Dundee!

  • Dawson Park

  • Balgay Park

  • Magdalen Green

  • Eastern Cemetery

  • The Howff

  • Dudhope Park

One of the city's most popular places is Dawson Park, where there are rows of cherry trees along the walkways, creating a almost tunnel-like feeling of delicate petals overhead. It's a photographer's dream, walking location, and springtime favorite peaceful moments.

Meanwhile in the West End, Magdalen Green offers a quieter, open space to enjoy the blooms set against the background of the Tay Rail Bridge. It's especially beautiful in late afternoon sunlight, when the petals sparkle in the golden light.

Other good sites are Balgay Park, where there are cherry trees near the observatory, and Camperdown Park, which has a mix of cherry trees and other spring flowers scattered over its grounds.

When's the best time to go?

Though bloom times vary a bit based on the weather, generally flowers seem to show up in the area around the second and third week of April which is very soon!

Look to local weather reports and photos taken on the web, as these will be fairly good indicators that trees are starting to bloom.

So, whether you’re a keen photographer, nature lover, or just looking for a relaxing walk, make sure to take in the cherry blossom magic across Dundee this spring.

It doesn’t last long - but while it does, it’s one of the city’s most beautiful sights.
