Dundee’s live entertainment scene is about to get a major boost with the arrival of LIVEHOUSE Dundee—a brand-new, multi-purpose venue set to host some of the biggest events in Scotland.

From concerts and esports competitions to conferences and award dinners, this cutting-edge venue aims to attract a diverse range of performances and experiences to the city.

With its state-of-the-art amenities, growing capacity, and ambitious plans, LIVEHOUSE Dundee is poised to become one of Scotland’s premier event spaces, ranking just behind Glasgow’s OVO Hydro and Aberdeen’s P&J Live in size.

But what can we expect from this new venue? Here’s everything we know so far.

What is LIVEHOUSE Dundee?

LIVEHOUSE Dundee is set to be a game-changer for the city’s entertainment scene.

Situated on the city’s Nethergate, this multi-purpose live entertainment venue will host music concerts, conferences, award ceremonies, and other large-scale events, bringing a new level of cultural vibrancy to Dundee.

Once open, LIVEHOUSE Dundee will be the third-largest venue in Scotland, behind only Glasgow’s OVO Hydro and Aberdeen’s P&J Live, cementing Dundee’s place on the map for major touring acts and large-scale events.

Who owns and operates LIVEHOUSE Dundee?

LIVEHOUSE Dundee is owned by TDL and will be operated by Angus Robb of 22A Events. Angus is a well-known figure in Dundee’s live entertainment scene, having previously operated Fat Sam’s, one of the city’s most popular live music venues.

He was also behind the Dundee Fan Park during Euro 2024, which brought thousands of football fans together to enjoy matches in a festival-style atmosphere.

What used to be on the site?

The site of LIVEHOUSE Dundee has a long and rich history in Dundee’s entertainment industry. It was originally home to Green’s Playhouse, an iconic cinema that first opened its doors in 1936. Green’s Playhouse was a major part of Dundee’s cultural landscape for decades before it was converted into a bingo hall in the 1980s.

However, in the late 1990s, a devastating fire destroyed the original Green’s Playhouse building. A new structure was built on the site, which later became home to MECCA Bingo, operating there until its closure in February 2024. Now, the site is undergoing a complete transformation to become LIVEHOUSE Dundee.

What acts will perform?

At this stage, no acts have been officially announced, but anticipation is growing. However, the Dundee Dance Event (DDE) has confirmed that it will be hosting part of its 2025 festival at LIVEHOUSE Dundee on 4 May, making it the first major event to be publicly linked to the venue.

Given its size and ambition, LIVEHOUSE Dundee is expected to attract major touring artists, comedians, and large-scale productions, bringing performances to the city that previously would have only been seen in Glasgow or Edinburgh.

When will LIVEHOUSE Dundee open?

An official opening date has yet to be confirmed, but speculation suggests it will open around early May 2025. This aligns with the Dundee Dance Event’s announcement of its show at the venue on 4 May, making it likely that the venue will be ready by then.

What amenities will LIVEHOUSE Dundee have?

LIVEHOUSE Dundee is designed to offer a cutting-edge experience for both performers and audiences. Some of the key amenities include:

  • Artist Lounges – Dedicated spaces for performers to relax before and after their sets.

  • Separate Event Spaces – The venue will be versatile, with areas that can be adapted for different types of events.

  • Robot Bars – High-tech automated bars will serve drinks efficiently, reducing queues and enhancing the overall event experience.

More features and facilities are expected to be revealed as the venue develops.

What is the capacity of LIVEHOUSE Dundee?

The venue’s capacity will expand in phases over the next few years:

  • May 2025 (Opening Phase) – 2,150 capacity

  • Within Two Years – Increased to 3,500

  • Final Phase – Expanded to 4,500

This phased approach allows the venue to grow in line with demand, making it one of Scotland’s largest live entertainment spaces.

What types of events will LIVEHOUSE Dundee host?

LIVEHOUSE Dundee is built to accommodate a wide range of events, including:

  • Concerts – Hosting major touring artists, DJs, and live music performances.

  • Conferences – A prime venue for business events and industry summits.

  • Award Dinners – Providing a grand setting for local and national awards.

  • Esports Competitions – Bringing large-scale gaming tournaments to Dundee.

  • Much More – Comedy gigs, theatre productions, and community events could also be part of the programming.

As more events are announced, LIVEHOUSE Dundee is set to become a key entertainment destination in Scotland.
