What used to be on the site?
The site of LIVEHOUSE Dundee has a long and rich history in Dundee’s entertainment industry. It was originally home to Green’s Playhouse, an iconic cinema that first opened its doors in 1936. Green’s Playhouse was a major part of Dundee’s cultural landscape for decades before it was converted into a bingo hall in the 1980s.
However, in the late 1990s, a devastating fire destroyed the original Green’s Playhouse building. A new structure was built on the site, which later became home to MECCA Bingo, operating there until its closure in February 2024.
