Here is everything that is opening in Dundee for Doors Open Day 2024


This weekend, Dundee will host its annual Doors Open Day, offering a unique opportunity to explore some of the city's most fascinating historical, cultural, and architectural landmarks.


From mosques and castles to historic ships and churches, there's something for everyone. Here’s a guide to the key locations participating this weekend.

List of openings


Al-Maktoum Mosque (28–29 September 2024, 10am-4pm) opened in 2013 and serves as a place of worship and community activities.


City Road Allotments (28–29 September 2024, 11am-3pm) feature 72 plots where locals grow produce and hold an annual Open Day, including a sale of fruits, vegetables, and flowers, alongside community exhibitions.


Dudhope Castle – The Circle Scotland (28–29 September 2024, 10am-4pm) is home to 11 organisations and has a rich history dating back to 1460, once serving as the seat of the Constables of Dundee.


Dundee Central Mosque (28–29 September 2024, 11am-4pm), the first purpose-built mosque in north-east Scotland, functions as a community centre open to all.


Dundee Contemporary Arts (DCA) (28–29 September 2024, 3-4pm on 28th, 11.30am-3.30pm on 29th) is a vibrant cultural hub with gallery spaces, cinemas, a print studio, and workshops, offering a rich programme for visitors of all ages.


Dundee Parish Church (St Mary's) (28 September 2024, 10am-3pm) was founded in 1190 and contains memorials and stunning stained glass windows, including a design by Sir Edward Burne-Jones.


Dundee Rep (28 September 2024, 10am-12pm), home to the Scottish Dance Theatre, is a hub of creative excellence known for its award-winning productions.


Dundee Sheriff and Justice of the Peace Court (28 September 2024, 10am-4pm) is an imposing building designed in 1833, extensively renovated and reopened by Princess Royal in 1997.


Gilfillan Memorial Church (28 September 2024, 10am-4pm) has been part of Dundee’s City Centre since the late 19th century and is active in community outreach.


Hawkhill House, University of Dundee (29 September 2024, 3-4pm) is the oldest building on the University campus and the birthplace of Sir James Alfred Ewing, a pioneering engineer.


HMS Unicorn (28 September 2024, 10am-4pm), built in 1824, is one of the world’s oldest wooden warships and a significant visitor attraction in Dundee, perfect for family visits.


Lodge Broughty Castle No 486 (28 September 2024, 10am-4pm)


Masonic Ancient Lodge No 49 (28-29 September 2024, 10am-4pm on 28th, 11am-3pm on 29th)


NCR Atleos, Discovery Centre (28 September 2024, 12-4pm) offers insight into its innovative ATM solutions, designed by over 600 employees based in Dundee.


School of Life Sciences, University of Dundee (29 September 2024, 11am-3pm) will showcase the UK’s top-ranked faculty for biological sciences, with research in areas such as medicine and microbiology.


Scottish Dance Theatre (Dundee Rep) (digital event only)


St Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church (28 September 2024), 10am-4pm) is celebrating its 150th anniversary this year and offers a glimpse into its historic beauty and vibrant community.


St Mary Magdalene’s Scottish Episcopal Church (28–29 September 2024, 10am-3pm on 28th, 1-3pm on 29th), founded in 1867, invites visitors to explore its architectural and religious history.


St Marnock's Church (28 September 2024, 11am-4pm)


St Mary's Church, Lochee (28 September 2024, 11.30am-4pm)


St Paul’s Scottish Episcopal Cathedral (28 September 2024), designed by Sir George Gilbert Scott, remains a landmark in Dundee, with its soaring spire and stunning interiors.


St Peter’s Free Church of Scotland (28 September 2024, 10am-5pm, 7pm-9.30pm)


St Salvador’s Church (28-29 September 2024, 10am-4pm on 28th, 12.30pm-3pm on 29th)


Tay Valley Family History Society (28 September 2024) promotes local history and genealogy and welcomes visitors to its research centre with over 5,000 historical items.


The Wardrobe – Transition Dundee (28 September 2024) offers second-hand clothes and upcycled items, alongside sustainability workshops.
