Dundonians have been offered a rare chance to play at the nearby St Andrew’s Old Course for £42.50

Golfers living in Dundee and Scotland are being given a golden opportunity to tee off at the world-famous Old Course at St Andrews for a fraction of the usual price – just £42.50 instead of the standard £340 green fee.

As per the Herald, the offer is part of a new initiative launched by the St Andrews Links Trust, named “Drive”, which aims to widen access to the prestigious courses in the Home of Golf.

Running between May and October 2025, the scheme will see 179 tee times made available across four of the trust’s courses – the Old, Castle, Jubilee and Eden – at a reduced rate for Scottish residents. In total, 716 golfers will benefit from discounted access.

“This means that a round on the Old Course will be available for £42.50 rather than £340, while on The Castle Course a round will cost £22.50, down from £180,” the Links Trust confirmed.

The initiative is geared toward individuals who “love golf, play golf and haven’t had the chance to play golf in St Andrews,” and applicants must live in Scotland to qualify.

The first 11 tee times on the Old Course will be available from 21 May, with golfers encouraged to enter via a two-ball ballot. Successful applicants will be paired and allocated a time slot.

All tee times will be drawn from existing visitor allocations, ensuring that the reduced-price access does not affect regular bookings.

The Links Trust stated: “Across the world, green fees have been increasing, with some courses in the UK now charging £1,000 for a round.

As a charity, the Links Trust has a responsibility to grow the sport and wants to buck this global trend by finding ways to make golf more accessible for all.”

Neil Coulson, chief executive of St Andrews Links Trust, said: “As the Home of Golf, St Andrews Links Trust takes its responsibility to the sport incredibly seriously. That is why we are so excited to launch a new initiative offering golfers across Scotland the opportunity to play our historic and iconic courses at a lower price.”

Should the “Drive” initiative prove successful, the Trust plans to expand the scheme in 2026 and beyond.
