More than 100 members have now joined a technology education and mentoring programme aimed at supporting startups across the Dundee and Tayside region.

As per FutureScot, the initiative is part of the regional delivery arm of the Scottish Government’s Techscaler scheme, run by CodeBase.

The Techscaler programme has also recently partnered with the Flour Mill, a co-working and serviced office space located on Commercial Street in Dundee. With its state-of-the-art facilities, including fast fibre connections, the Flour Mill is poised to support the growth of tech entrepreneurs in the region.

Among the firms to benefit from the programme is Bookr, a tech company that has developed a platform to help healthcare organisations streamline clinical skills training and examinations. Bookr completed Techscaler’s ‘Startup Next Steps’ programme in 2023.

John Hume, CEO and founder of Bookr, commented on the thriving tech scene in the area, stating, “It’s clear that Dundee and the surrounding region have a growing tech ecosystem. Techscaler and the Flour Mill have been key contributors to our success. We enjoy being here, with the University of Dundee as one of our customers, and we also have easy access to Scotland’s healthcare and NHS market.”

Rebecca Gee, community manager at the Flour Mill, emphasised the importance of collaboration, saying, “We share a strong community focus with CodeBase and the Techscaler initiative. We’re excited about this partnership and the role we can play in supporting startup growth together.”

While the Flour Mill serves as Techscaler’s latest pop-up hub in Scotland, Dundee’s permanent Techscaler hub is located at Abertay CyberQuarter. This hub is one of seven permanent sites across the country, aimed at fostering Scotland’s tech innovation.

Local tech leaders note that Dundee’s tech sector is expanding beyond its well-known gaming industry, with new startups emerging in fields such as healthcare, tourism, education, and data analytics. Events and initiatives like Techscaler are playing a significant role in stimulating this growth in the region.
