For pop artist Neave Marr, May will mark a major milestone in her music career as she prepares for her first-ever headline show in Dundee – set to be her biggest show to date.

The show, taking place at Roots on 10 May, has been Neave’s fastest-selling show, a true testament to both her growing fanbase and the potential for new sounds in Dundee’s evolving music scene.

In a city where indie and alternative acts typically dominate, Neave, who is just 21 years old, initially struggled to carve out a space for her brand of pop.

“The pop scene just isn’t big here. I wasn’t sure if there was a place for my style and genre of music” she admits. “It would be amazing to introduce a stronger pop scene to Dundee.”

However, with her May headline show now sold out- selling over 50% of the tickets on the first day - Neave is proving that there is an audience for pop in Dundee.

“Dundee has always been such a supportive city,” she says, “its creative scene is huge and I’m now seeing a lot more potential for pop artists here.”

Neave’s upcoming show will not only mark a significant milestone in her career but will also feature her biggest production yet.

With a sold-out crowd and “fun, interactive vibes”, she promises this performance will be unlike anything she’s done before.

“Expect a full band and a real performance” she says, “It’s going to be bigger than anything I’ve done before.”

For Neave, music has always been a constant. From singing as a young girl to finding her voice as a songwriter during lockdown, she says pursuing music “was a dream that never left.”

“It still doesn’t feel real to now be selling out my own shows” she admits. “I can’t explain how it feels to have people care and want to listen to my music.”

“I’ve never felt so nervous for a show before” she says, reflecting on her upcoming performance. “There’s something so nerve-wracking about performing in your hometown.”

Despite nerves, for Neave, growth as an artist matters most. “Taking my music to the next level and connecting people on a deeper level is my biggest goal” she says, adding that she’s already working on more shows and her first EP.

And where does Neave see herself in the future? “Hopefully as a big popstar” she laughs.
