Dundee’s Eagle Jute Mills is set to be redeveloped after receiving planning permission.
The former jute mill built in 1864 has already received planning permission for a mixed development overseen by Savills Developments, including homes, commercial spaces, and a nursery while keeping its industrial heritage intact.
Standing on 1.7 acres of land, Eagle Mills consists of two primary sections, a Category B listed mill building with intricate architectural features.
Originally built with coursed rubble stonework, the premises were later extended in 1930 by Art Deco designs, which created a visually appealing piece of Dundee's history.
What will the redevelopment entail?
It will be in two stages and will deliver 68 new homes, a nursery, café, and commercial properties.
Phase 1 will see the old mill be repurposed with 34 loft apartments in the heart of a historic character building with modern perks.
Additionally, it will also see a nursery school as well as small café or bakery and some commercial units, with 31 car parking spaces.
Phase 2 will see the construction of a new L-shaped residential block with 34 further apartments, one retail space, and 24 car parking spaces.
In addition to residential and commercial space, the development includes a large basement space of nearly 19,547 sq ft, offering further commercial potential with ceiling levels of up to 7.5 metres.
With its settings composed of a variety of residential as well as commercial structures, Eagle Mills lies at the north-east rim of Dundee city centre and the redevelopment places the mill to be brought back to life in new fashion.
