After a five year absence, Dundee’s Christmas tree will be making a return to the City Square with a switch on event also confirmed by Dundee City Council.
Dundee City Council has unveiled its plans for Christmas 2025, with a Christmas tree returning to City Square, a switch-on of Christmas lights, and the return of the Dundee Hooley.
The decision follows feedback gathered from the Council’s recent Budget consultation, where residents expressed a strong desire for a traditional Christmas celebration in the city.
In response, the Council has committed additional investment in city events to ensure a festive atmosphere for locals and visitors alike.
‘We’ve listened to the people of Dundee’
Council Leader Cllr Mark Flynn emphasised the importance of community feedback in shaping the plans:
We've listened to what the people of Dundee have said they would most like to happen. Christmas is a very special time of year, and it brings people together, so as a city, we're eager to put the best opportunities in place for that to happen.
He said the public had made it clear they valued elements of a traditional Dundee Christmas, including a City Square Christmas tree, and the Council was striving to make that happen.
"These events will be free to access at a time when the impacts of the cost-of-living crisis continue to be felt by all. This way, we provide the highest value for cash and deliver forward what so many people across the city have demanded."
Dundee Hooley is making a return for fourth year
Following its success over the past three years, the Dundee Hooley will also be back as part of the city's festivities at Christmas time, offering an opportunity for people to get together around St. Andrew's Day.
Further details of Dundee's 2025 Christmas programme will be announced in the coming months as the city prepares to welcome citizens and visitors for another memorable festive season.
