Dundee has been officially recognised as one of the most house-proud cities in the UK, according to new research conducted by Locksmith Croydon.

As the country gears up for a spell of warm spring weather, with homeowners embracing spring cleaning and home makeovers, the study has revealed the top 15 cities where residents take the greatest pride in their homes — and Dundee proudly claims the 14th spot.

Earning an impressive house-proud score of 7.59 out of 10, the City of Discovery stands out not only for its enthusiasm in refreshing living spaces but also for its investment in home improvements.

Dundonians spend an average of £4,234 annually on renovations, placing them among the top spenders in the UK.

The research also found that Dundonians are particularly focused on enhancing their living rooms, making it the most popular space for upgrades across the city.

The ranking was determined by analysing average monthly search volumes for home-related topics — such as décor inspiration, spring cleaning tips, and room makeovers — alongside home renovation spending figures.

Dundee recorded around 469 home improvement-related searches per 100,000 residents, underlining a keen interest in keeping their homes looking their best.

Topping the national list is Newcastle upon Tyne, where residents scored a remarkable 9.62 out of 10, driven by high levels of both renovation spending and home improvement searches.

Scottish cities performed strongly overall, with Glasgow and Edinburgh claiming second and third place respectively, further cementing Scotland’s reputation for house pride.

While Dundee may not have clinched the top spot, its inclusion in the top 15 highlights the city’s growing passion for creating stylish, comfortable homes.

Whether it’s giving the living room a fresh new look or tackling ambitious renovations, Dundonians are clearly embracing home pride this spring.

As homeowners across the UK refresh their spaces, experts have also issued a timely reminder about the risks of common spring-cleaning mistakes, warning that they could potentially devalue properties if not handled properly.
