Dundee has been ranked the safest city in the UK in which to drive, with a score of a very respectable 92.7 out of 100 in a recent road safety report.
The research, conducted by online car buying service WeBuyAnyCar, pitted road casualties, dangerous driving offences, and speeding offences against a survey of 1,600 drivers.
It found that while two out of three drivers deliberately avoid driving in major UK cities due to concerns for their safety, Dundee is the safest city to get behind the wheel.
The study finds widespread anxiety among UK drivers, with nearly a third (29%) of drivers saying they do not feel safe driving in towns and cities. The most common worries cited were aggressive driving (55%), confusing road layouts (53%), and poor road surfaces (51%).
Despite these problems, Dundee was the best-performing city with low accident rates and a positive safety record. The ranking places it far above the likes of Leeds, Bradford, and Manchester, which were found to be the most dangerous places to drive.
Leeds was the UK's most dangerous city to drive in with a score of just 4.6 out of 100. It had the country's second highest number of speeding offenses and one of the highest numbers of illegal driving offenses per 1,000 population. Bradford (9.6) and a joint Bristol and Hereford (18.3) followed closely.
Manchester, a fellow large city struggling with road safety problems, scored a lowly 22.8.
Dundee's top ranking is attributed to its well-maintained roads, lower rate of reckless driving, and safer general driving conditions.
With road safety becoming an increasing concern among UK drivers, the high ranking of the city sets the standard for others aiming to improve driving conditions.
