Dundee has been recognised as the UK's electric vehicle (EV) capital by the Daily Express, showcasing the city's leadership in sustainable transport.
This recognition stems from the work of Drive Dundee Electric, a campaign group that, since 2012, has been working with the council to build a robust EV infrastructure.
Their efforts have made it easier for residents to switch from petrol and diesel to electric vehicles without imposing changes, focusing on accessibility and convenience.
One example of Dundee’s commitment to green transport is the success of Ember, a local company running a fleet of 38 electric coaches, with plans to expand to 100.
Each vehicle can travel up to 300 miles on a single charge, further demonstrating the city’s dedication to eco-friendly transport solutions. The council has also transitioned much of its fleet to electric, including passenger cars, vans, and even bin lorries.
Dundee’s charging infrastructure sets it apart, with solar-powered units and pop-up chargers for residents without driveways.
By combining public initiatives with practical solutions, the city is proving that electric vehicles can be a sustainable, long-term answer to reducing emissions, positioning Dundee as a leader in the UK's green future.
