Dundee will take centre stage for Scotland’s national cycling conference later this year, as the city continues its efforts to improve cycling infrastructure and promote active travel.
Dundee City Council announced details of Cycling Scotland’s annual conference which is set to take place on September 10 at the Apex City Quay Hotel and Spa, bringing together key organisations working to increase everyday cycling across the country.
The event will feature a range of speakers, including Transport Secretary Fiona Hyslop, Dundee City Council leader Mark Flynn, and Councillor Steven Rome, who leads on Fair Work, Economic Growth, and Infrastructure for the city.
Recent data from Sustrans’ Walking and Cycling Index indicates strong public support in Dundee for more segregated cycle paths, low-traffic neighbourhoods, and increased investment in sustainable transport.
While challenges remain, the city has made significant progress with projects such as secure cycle storage, the Broughty Ferry to Monifieth Active Travel corridor, and the Bell Street Green Transport Hub.
Dundee is hosting the conference for the first time in seven years, and it provides the city with an opportunity to highlight its commitment to active travel.
Attendees will learn about ongoing initiatives, including the expansion of on-street cycle storage and the delivery of Bikeability training in every primary school.
Plans to develop a citywide network of dedicated cycle routes will also be a key focus.
The conference is seen as a recognition of Dundee’s efforts to become a more cycle-friendly city, with hopes that the event will inspire further investment and development in active travel infrastructure.
