The Dundee Design Festival has announced its highly anticipated programme for 2024, scheduled to take place from September 23 to 29 at the Michelin Scotland Innovation Parc.
As Scotland's premier festival of contemporary design, this year’s event promises an extensive line-up of activities, exhibitions, and talks that showcase the creative talents of over 150 designers.
The festival will occupy 10,000 square metres within the transformed former factory site, making it the largest of its kind in Scotland.
Attendees can look forward to exploring a wide range of new and existing designs across various disciplines, including furniture, interiors, jewellery, homewares, craft, graphic design, and fashion.
The festival’s exhibitions are designed to highlight the innovative and diverse work emerging from Scotland’s vibrant design scene.
A key component of this year’s programme is the numerous hands-on activities that will engage visitors of all ages.
The festival will feature workshops led by renowned designers, such as creating whimsical “beasties” with Donna Wilson and screen printing with the celebrated Timorous Beasties. Additionally, ADesignStorie will host sessions on sustainable interior design, offering insights into eco-friendly practices and materials.
The festival will also spotlight the talents within Dundee’s design community, with over 50 local designers, including 14 graduates from the Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design (DJCAD), set to exhibit their work.
This platform provides a valuable opportunity for emerging designers to showcase their creations alongside established professionals, fostering collaboration and innovation.
In line with its commitment to sustainability, the festival organisers have emphasised their dedication to environmental responsibility. The event will be powered by clean energy and will use less than 30% virgin materials, underscoring their goal to create one of the world’s most sustainable design festivals.
