The college celebrated this achievement at a special event held on Monday 21 October at its Gardyne Campus.

The event was attended by over 60 guests, including college staff, community partners, and local government representatives.

Shona Robison, Cabinet Secretary for Finance and Local Government, commended the college's efforts in providing a safe and supportive environment for refugees and asylum seekers.

She praised the college for its leadership in inclusion and the essential work it does in helping individuals rebuild their lives through education and support.

Attendees at the event were treated to vibrant cultural experiences, including international dishes and the unveiling of the college's unique D&A Tartan, symbolising unity and inclusion. Students shared their powerful stories of resilience and the impact of the college's support on their lives.

Nadia Kryvonosenko, a student at Dundee & Angus College, expressed how meeting people from different cultures had broadened her perspective and highlighted the importance of language in connecting people.

The College of Sanctuary status was awarded by City of Sanctuary UK, recognising the institution's commitment to welcoming and supporting those seeking sanctuary.

The college's ESOL team has played a crucial role in providing tailored language support and helping students integrate into their new environment.

Reflecting on this achievement, Katie Baxter, Learner and Community Engagement Manager, expressed immense pride in the college's journey and the impact it has had on staff and students.

As Scotland's pioneering College of Sanctuary, Dundee & Angus College is leading the way in inclusive education and inspiring other institutions to follow suit.

Through its dedication to innovation and partnerships, the college continues to provide opportunities and hope for all students, regardless of their background.
