Christmas in Dundee: Here are some of the festive events happening this weekend (7-8 December)


December is well underway - and with the first weekend of the month here, Dundee Culture will be looking at some of the best Christmas events taking place each weekend in the run up to Christmas. From fayres to family events, there is something for everyone!


The McManus Christmas Market

Date: Saturday 7 December, 10am

Location: McManus Galleries, Albert Square

Cost: Free


The McManus Christmas Market will take place in The Victoria Gallery on the museum’s first floor from 10am to 4pm. Enjoy a festive shopping experience with unique gifts from local makers, along with family crafts, activities, and storytelling. The Dundee Community Youth Orchestra will perform at 10:30am, while festive crafts run from 12pm. Storytelling sessions are from 1:30pm, and the McManus Café will serve delicious seasonal treats throughout the day.


Spex Pistols Christmas Family Craft

Date: Saturday 7 December, 10am-12:30pm

Location: Gallery 48, 48 Westport

Cost: Free (Booking required)


Learn how to create festive decorations using recycled and everyday items in these fun workshops hosted by Cara Findlay and Sooz Gordon. Sessions run from 10-11am, 11:15am-12:15pm, and 12:30-1:30pm. Booking is essential—reserve your spot by calling 01382 529377.


Harris Academy Christmas Fayre

Date: Saturday 7 December, 10am

Location: Harris Academy, Perth Road

Cost: Free


A festive fayre with crafts, home baking, barista coffee, and entertainment, offering something for everyone to enjoy.


West End Christmas Afternoon Concert

Date: Saturday 7 December, 2pm

Location: Logie and St John’s Cross Parish Church

Cost: Free


This festive concert features performances by the Dundee Community Youth Orchestra, ‘The Dundee Choir That Doesn’t Have a Name Yet,’ and the Louisiana Fairytale Riverboat Jazz Band. Everyone is welcome, and no booking is required.


Messy Christmas at The Brook

Date: Saturday 7 December, 2pm

Location: The Brook, 343 Brook Street

Cost: Free


A fun-filled afternoon for families with Christmas crafts, games, a festive movie, songs, and snacks from 2pm to 4pm.


Santa’s Grotto at Discovery Point

Date: Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 December, 10am

Location: Discovery Point, Riverside Drive

Cost: £18 per child


Santa’s Grotto offers a magical experience for children, starting with an interactive show led by Santa’s elves. Santa makes a special appearance, providing photo opportunities and a gift for each child.


Double Door Studios Festive Boutique

Date: Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 December, 11am

Location: Double Door Studios, 7 Ward Road

Cost: Free


The Festive Boutique at Double Door Studios offers unique handmade items, including jewellery, candles, ceramics, textiles, and more from resident and guest designers. Visitors can also order bespoke framing for artwork.


Mischief in the Mill

Date: Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 December, 3:30pm

Location: Verdant Works, West Henderson Wynd

Cost: £25


Join a festive afternoon tea with a twist, where the Grinch has brought fun and mischief to the mill. Enjoy green cakes and other treats, along with plenty of surprises for the whole family.


Boomerang Christmas Fayre

Date: Sunday 8 December, 12pm

Location: Boomerang Community Centre, 10 Kemback Street

Cost: Free


Browse a variety of stalls, enjoy children’s entertainment, and meet Santa in his grotto at this community Christmas fayre.


Christmas Ceilidh at Duke’s

Date: Sunday 8 December, 7:30pm

Location: Duke’s Corner

Cost: Free


Enjoy a lively evening of traditional dancing with The Gallivanters, who will guide you through the steps. If dancing isn’t for you, simply relax and enjoy the festive atmosphere. Booking is not required, but tables can be reserved via the Duke’s Corner website.
