Reports have surfaced indicating that investors from the United States are keen on transforming the former Camperdown Golf Course and the accompanying mansion house into a premier golf centre.
First reported by the Courier, discussions are in the early stages.
John Alexander, the leader of Dundee City Council, has noted that these American investors have shown "active interest" in both the golf course and Camperdown House.
According to Mr. Alexander, the Americans are collaborating with businesses based in the UK. However, due to "commercial reasons," he is unable to disclose any details about the parties involved at this moment.
The closure of Camperdown Golf Course in April 2020 marked the end of its 60 years of operation. The decision to shut down the course was made by councillors in a bid to save hundreds of thousands of pounds annually.
Despite several attempts to rescue the 6,548-yard course, none were successful. Even a 2022 bid to reopen the course planned for the previous spring failed to materialise.
Mr. Alexander revealed the latest proposals, stating: "There is active interest in the golf course and Camperdown House. A few months ago, an organisation directly approached me expressing keen interest, and they are not the only interested party."
Camperdown House is reportedly included in the plans. In their email, they expressed interest in "opportunities to take over the former Camperdown Golf Course estate, with the aim of transforming it into an 18-hole golf course."
This new development brings hope to the local community, aiming to restore the former glory of Camperdown Golf Course and its surroundings, potentially attracting golf enthusiasts from across the UK and beyond.
