After more than two years and 135 heartfelt columns, Andrew Batchelor, the founder of Dundee Culture, has written his final piece for the Evening Telegraph, Dundee’s local newspaper.
Andrew began his weekly column in May 2022, using the platform to celebrate Dundee’s history, culture, and people.
Over time, the columns have been reflecting the passion and dedication of the city, and stories that has also defined his work with Dundee Culture.
The columns have looked at subjects dedicated to Dundee’s rise as a global tech hub, campaigning for Mills Observatory, looking back at Dundee’s history, and sharing thoughts about the city’s future.
“Finishing up with 135 columns at the end of Dundee’s 135th anniversary of city status is quite fitting,” Andrew reflected.
“It’s a love letter to Dundee, Dundonians, the Tele, and a big thank you to everyone who has helped me on my journey.”
While his time with the Tele is coming to a close, Andrew isn’t stepping away from writing. He plans to continue sharing his insights and stories on Dundee Culture’s website, ensuring his voice remains a constant presence in the city’s cultural landscape.
“I’ve enjoyed the time and will be forever grateful to DC Thomson for these fantastic two years,” he said. “But this is not the end—I’ll have a lot more to say when the column moves to a new home on Dundee Culture’s website from 2025.”
Andrew’s final column will be a fitting farewell, serving as a heartfelt tribute to Dundee. Readers can look forward to a reflective piece that captures his gratitude and enduring connection to the city.
