Abertay University continues to strengthen its reputation as a leader in games education, as both staff and students have been shortlisted for numerous prestigious accolades in the 2024 TIGA UK Games Education Awards.
The awards, organised by TIGA, celebrate excellence in the fields of games development education, recognising outstanding achievement and innovative approaches across the UK.
Among the categories, several of Abertay’s talented graduates have been nominated for Graduate of the Year across various disciplines:
Graduate of the Year (Artist): Berenika Zemanek and Joseph Bardolph
Graduate of the Year (Designer): Milla Keski-Santti and Harry Petch
Graduate of the Year (Programmer): Adam Hughes and Jamie Buttenshaw
Graduate of the Year (Audio): Keir McNab and Jake Brodie
In addition, Alexander Tarvet has earned a nomination for Post-Graduate of the Year, showcasing the exceptional calibre of students emerging from the university.
Abertay's academic staff are also receiving recognition for their contributions to the gaming sector. Robin Griffiths has been shortlisted for the Innovative Teaching Award, reflecting the university’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of education. Furthermore, Gordon Bicker is a finalist in the Excellence in University/College - Industry Collaboration category, underscoring Abertay’s strong ties with the industry.
Abertay University itself is in the running for Excellence in Games Research, further cementing its status as a hub of innovative research in the field.
The UK Games Education Awards 2024 highlight the tremendous achievements of individuals and institutions driving forward the gaming industry in the UK, and Abertay’s multiple nominations are a testament to its world-class programmes and commitment to fostering talent.
The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony later this year, with anticipation running high for the university’s contenders.
