Sixteen days of free, family-friendly fun inspired by the beloved creators of Wallace & Gromit, Shaun the Sheep, and Chicken Run are coming to V&A Dundee this week.
In a first-of-its-kind partnership in Scotland, Aardman and V&A Dundee are inviting visitors of all ages to explore the magic of stop-motion animation.
From Saturday 29 March to Sunday 13 April 2025, the museum’s Thomson Learning Centre will transform into a hands-on animation studio, offering daily drop-in sessions from 12:30pm to 4:30pm.
Aspiring filmmakers can dive into the Aardman Animator app, learn key skills through the Animate with Aardman video series, and get hands-on guidance from V&A Dundee’s team of designers.
Using colourful clay, paper, toys, and building blocks, participants can create their own characters, design sets, and experiment with lighting, sound, and camera techniques.
They’ll even have the chance to record their own dialogue and sound effects, bringing their mini masterpieces to life.
For those with a passion for design, there’s also a chance to get creative with Shaun the Sheep. Visitors can design a unique woolly jumper for the much-loved character, drawing inspiration from V&A Dundee’s Scottish Design Galleries, which house an iconic Fair Isle sweater, and a vibrant collection of books filled with bold patterns and artistic collages.
This exciting programme is part of V&A Dundee’s year-round family learning activities, which take inspiration from different exhibitions and design themes. It is supported by funds raised by players of People’s Postcode Lottery.
Aardman, the multi-award-winning independent animation studio, has been delighting audiences worldwide for nearly 50 years with its charming stop-motion creations.
This event offers a unique opportunity for fans of all ages to step into the world of Aardman and try their hand at animation.
