A YouTuber has branded Dundee as Scotland's most underrated city in a new video.
The Wandering Turnip, which is run by David Burnip, has over 138,000 subscribers on YouTube, was recently in the City of Discovery and provided his followers with an update.
In a video recording the history of Dundee, the vlogger related that he was inspired to head up north to unveil the city's heritage which is identified with the "Three J's"—Jute, Jam, and Journalism. He also met up with fellow YouTuber Wendallexplores during his visit.
During his time there, David was struck by the city's architecture and its picturesque waterfront, noting how the broad River Tay provides a spectacular backdrop. He also delved into Dundee's industrial past, investigating whether the city has clung to the past or created a new identity.
His excursion led him to uncover another key page of Dundee's history—whaling. A key part of the city's economy in previous times, whaling assisted in gaining Dundee its reputation as an industrial power house in the 19th and early 20th centuries.
David had said that he previously visited Edinburgh and Glasgow while touring Scotland. But he referred to Dundee as his favourite place so far, describing the city as having a rich history and vibrant atmosphere.
His video has sparked a debate online, with locals and visitors alike agreeing with his sentiments about Dundee being a secret gem.
The city has undergone significant regeneration in recent years, with developments such as the V&A Dundee and waterfront regeneration bringing new interest in its cultural and historic offering.
As David continues to explore industrial heritage across the UK, he has invited his readers to suggest more sites with fascinating histories. Dundee, it would seem, has certainly left its impression.
