A new heritage trail is in the works in Lochee which could see new street art and murals celebrating the history of Lochee.

Dundee City Council is inviting public consultation on plans to create a 2.7km urban path in Lochee.

The proposed looped route will commemorate the area's rich history while improving access and open spaces for residents.

The route would connect significant residential communities, like Kirk Street and Ancrum Road, and neighbourhood schools like Ancrum Road Primary Schools and St Mary's Schools.

The strategy incorporates spaces on the route where one can pause, play, and socialise, with murals, street art, and informational signs that celebrate Lochee's history being added elements.

To enhance accessibility, Dundee City Council will install new crossings, pavements with more space, dropped kerbs, and tactile paving. The whole trail will take around 40 minutes to walk, 25 minutes to jog, and 12 minutes to cycle.

The council reports that previous consultation in 2024 had shown that encouraging the heritage of Lochee and enhancing accessibility were top priorities.

They are now seeking additional comments on the theme of the trail, signage, and the proposed design of two trail zones at Wellbank Lane and Burnside Street/Gray's Lane junction.

An online consultation will take place between February 24 to 28, in order that residents may offer their views.

There will also be face-to-face events at Lochee Community Hub (12pm – 2pm) and Lochee Leisure Centre (4.30pm – 7pm) on Tuesday, February 25.

The council is inviting everyone to contribute to the development of the Lochee Urban Trail's future. Further details, including the web survey, can be found here.
