A new exhibition celebrating one of Dundee’s most important institutions is set to open at V&A Dundee this weekend.

“Ninewells Hospital: Care, Community and Innovation” will be unveiled on Saturday 3 May at 10am in the museum’s Michelin Design Gallery. The exhibition marks a major celebration of medical and design innovation at the heart of Dundee and Tayside, highlighting key moments from the past 50 years.

Visitors will be taken on a journey through pivotal developments at Ninewells Hospital, including the renowned Ninewells Cancer Campaign and the opening of the Maggie’s Centre within the hospital grounds.

The exhibition also explores contemporary stories, with a particular focus on responsive design and adaptations made during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Dundee’s role as a city of medical innovation is a key theme running throughout the exhibition.

From pioneering breakthroughs in IVF and keyhole surgery to the forward-thinking design of the hospital itself, Ninewells has been at the forefront of advances that have significantly impacted healthcare locally and globally.

The exhibition is supported by the NHS Tayside Charitable Foundation and aims to not only celebrate past achievements but also highlight the ongoing spirit of innovation that defines Dundee’s medical community.

“Ninewells Hospital: Care, Community and Innovation” opens to the public on Saturday and will be free to visit in the Michelin Design Gallery at V&A Dundee.
