A new initiative is set to launch next month to help visitors and locals spot dolphins from Broughty Ferry.

Using observational insights provided by SaltDog Marine, a weekly dolphin-spotting timetable will be published to indicate the most likely times to see dolphins along the River Tay - all within the opening hours of Broughty Castle Museum.

The project is a collaboration between Leisure & Culture Dundee, Broughty Castle Museum, and SaltDog Marine.

It aims to enhance the experience of those visiting the area by offering more informed opportunities to view one of the Tay’s most iconic species - the bottlenose dolphin.

While dolphin sightings can never be guaranteed, the timetable will highlight peak periods based on recent patterns and environmental conditions.

The best chances to see dolphins are expected during the summer months of June, July and August.

Broughty Castle, which overlooks the Tay estuary, offers one of the best natural viewing points in the region.

The castle’s elevated ramparts provide panoramic views across the water, making it a popular spot for wildlife watchers and photographers alike.

Visitors are also encouraged to explore Broughty Castle Museum, which features exhibitions on local history, natural heritage, and maritime culture.

Entry is free, with optional donations welcomed to support the museum’s ongoing work.

With its unique combination of wildlife, heritage, and coastal scenery, Broughty Ferry continues to grow as a destination for both education and leisure.
