A group of peer volunteers at a Dundee refugee resettlement service has taken a significant step in assisting individuals rebuilding their lives in the city.
These dedicated volunteers from the Scottish Refugee Council have produced a series of video resources aimed at aiding newcomers in navigating essential services.
Recognising the difficulties faced by those who arrive in a foreign land with limited English proficiency, the peer volunteers have developed a range of translated videos to assist individuals in setting up and accessing crucial services through the MyDundee platform provided by Dundee City Council.
Peer volunteers are individuals who have personally encountered the challenges of resettlement and are now leveraging their experiences to support others in similar circumstances. Their firsthand insights and compassion uniquely qualify them to offer assistance and develop impactful and accessible resources.
According to some of the Dundee peer volunteers, they have said that they hope that the translated videos will help people who don’t speak English as a first language to access vital services.
They also hope that the videos will help people feel more welcome and supported, and expressed that they "know how difficult it can be to start over in a new country", so we wanted to create something that would be helpful and informative.”
Through their linguistic abilities and cultural awareness, these peer volunteers are significantly impacting the lives of individuals seeking safety in Dundee.
