Dundee is in for a fantastic spring and summer, with a whole host of new openings and events that will bring fresh life to the city.

From major cultural highlights to a brand-new music venue and festivals to place the entire city on the map, there is much to look forward to.

Whether you have an interest in history, music, shopping, or simply like to sit back and watch Dundee flourish, here are six things to watch out for in the city that you will not want to miss.

HMS Unicorn Bicentenary Garden

Opens 29 March

The HMS Unicorn is continuing its bicentenary celebrations into 2025 by launching a brand new garden in the East Graving Dock, where the historic vessel will soon make its home.

This green space will not only mark an important chapter in the ship’s history but also give Dundonians and visitors a new waterfront spot to enjoy.

Whether you’re a history enthusiast or just fancy a peaceful place to soak in the city’s maritime past, this is an exciting addition to Dundee’s landscape.

V&A Dundee Exhibitions: Ninewells & Garden Futures

Opens 3 May & 17 May

The V&A Dundee is bringing two groundbreaking exhibitions to the city this spring. Ninewells Hospital: Care, Community and Innovation (opens 3 May) will celebrate 50 years of one of Scotland's most important hospitals, highlighting its impact on medicine, design, and care of communities.

Then, on 17 May, Garden Futures will explore the future of garden design and how our gardens can be designed to respond to the challenges of climate change and urbanization.

Both exhibitions will be thought-provoking and reflective of the V&A's passion for celebrating design in all its forms.

LIVEHOUSE Dundee

Opens 4 May

Dundee is to receive the biggest entertainment complex in over a century. LIVEHOUSE Dundee is set to open on 4 May with the Dundee Dance Event closing party.

It will initially operate at a maximum capacity of 2,150, with expansion plans to eventually reach 4,500.

Built on the former site of the historic Green's Playhouse, LIVEHOUSE will bring live music, comedy, conference business, and even sports matches like darts to the heart of the city.

With its diverse events agenda and cutting-edge facilities, LIVEHOUSE is destined to transform the nightlife and culture of Dundee.

Dundee Music Festival

Hosted 27–28 June

A brand-new music festival is making its debut in Dundee this summer.

The Dundee Music Festival will take over venues across the city, from iconic spots like Groucho’s to CHURCH, bringing together local talent and bigger names in the industry.

Whether you’re into indie, rock, electronic, or something else entirely, this festival promises to deliver an unforgettable weekend of music and community spirit.

Doof in the Park

Hosted 5 July

One of Dundee's newest up-and-coming stars in the electronic music scene, Hannah Laing, is curating her own festival in the city this summer.

Doof in the Park will be taking over Camperdown Park on 5 July, featuring a roster of top DJs and EDM performers, spilling out in a party of fast-paced action in the heart of Dundee.

With Hannah's growing reputation and a dedicated fan base, this concert will be one of the highlights of the summer music calendar.

Overgate Shops Expansion

Throughout Spring–Summer

The Overgate Shopping Centre is set to be reborn with a series of high-profile new store openings set to hit the city over the next few months.

High-end brands like Flannels, Frasers, and Mango are poised to make a splash, with Superdrug also confirming an expansion.

The new stores will bring much-needed life to the shopping sector in the city centre, offering greater choice and a fantastic new way to shop for consumers.

With so much happening in Dundee over the next few months, there’s never been a better time to explore the city. Whether you’re discovering a new favourite music act, soaking in the latest V&A exhibitions, or enjoying the new HMS Unicorn garden, there’s something for everyone to look forward to. So, mark your calendars and get ready - Dundee’s got a thrilling season ahead!
